A BIT MORE ABOUT ME
I moved to Chicago, a mere 11 days after graduating from the University of Kansas, to begin my advertising career. Working in advertising I was able to have a lot of amazing experiences, and work on several global brands, including: McDonald’s, Wrigley gum, and Whirlpool. While I enjoyed the work I was doing, I found my favorite part was teaching and mentoring the Assistant Strategists. I found I had a talent in “teaching” as many of my Assistant Strategists were being promoted more quickly. I also recognized there was a gap between education and the working world; many jobs expect you to have “workplace knowledge” when you begin, however, nobody will ever teach you these specific skills in college or high school. I wrote my Masters Thesis on the need to increase collaboration within the classroom. I specifically wanted to teach in Chicago Public Schools to become more involved in the community, and empower students to take their learning to the next level. I spent 3 years teaching at Roberto Clemente Community Academy before transferring to Thomas Kelly High School. I am very excited to be a part of the Kelly High School community. |
